1943: Rioters on Woodward Avenue

Woodward Avenue, which runs down the middle of Detroit, descended into chaos during the 21st and 22nd of June, 1943. Rioters on both sides of the color line tipped over cars, setting them alight. By the time the riots were quelled by federal troops three days later, 34 people were dead, and hundreds were wounded.
