1967: Troops Resting In Front of Southeastern High School

The riots were finally quelled by the arrival of U.S. Army troops, who quickly restored order. 43 people died during the riots, and over 1,000 were injured. Damage to the city was immense, with entire blocks destroyed by fires that raged out of control for days.
