Kendrick Manufacturing Co. / University Prep School

In some cases, vacant industrial buildings can be adapted for new purposes without having to tear down the structure. In 2009, a public charter school bought and began renovation of a vacant industrial building on Chene Street that had once been used by the Kendrick Manufacturing Company. The University Prep Science & Math High School opened in September of 2010, and is now one of the top-ranked schools in the city.
