Hubert School was named for Don Sherman Hubert, the first man from Redford Township to die serving in the First World War. The first unit of six classrooms opened in 1925 but were quickly filled, so work on an eight-room addition began in 1926. Redford Township was annexed to the City of Detroit a short time later, and Hubert became part of the Detroit public school system. A gymnasium, library and cafeteria were added in 1930, along with eight more classrooms. The third and final addition was built in 1953, including a new gymnasium.
Hubert closed in 2005 due to low enrollment and has been abandoned since.
