Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel Columbus

The abandoned Howard Johnson Hotel in Columbus originally opened as a Marriot Hotel in 1970, but later became a Ramada Inn. In 1997 the hotel sold for $4.1 million and was converted into a Four Points by Sheraton. But traveler tastes changed in the early 2000’s, and the aging hotel struggled to attract guests. At some point it became a Howard Johnson Plaza, but closed sometime between 2007 and 2009. It was abandoned until its demolition in 2013 (thanks Lena).
