St. Paul's Elderly Housing was an apartment complex for senior citizens on the west side of Detroit. The 12-story tower was built in 1974, and had 139 units.
In December of 1998, a fire broke out on the eighth floor and spread to the units above. Firefighters used ladders and aerial buckets to rescue residents from the upper floors in 14-degree weather, with five being treated for smoke inhalation. The building was repaired and residents were allowed to move back in.
St. Paul's closed in 2012. By November, scrappers had stripped the building.
