Alhambra Apartments

The Alhambra is a vacant apartment building in the Cass Corridor. Exactly when the Alhambra Apartments were built is open to debate; an inscription on the back of an old photograph indicates it was around 1896, and the 1897 Sanborn Fire Insurance map shows it already having been finished, but city tax records say that it was 1899.

By the 1970's, the apartment building was being used as The Hotel Embassy, but later returned to use as apartments. Vacant for a number of years, the building is starting to sag in the center around the light well, giving it a slight tilt. The area around the the apartments is currently being redeveloped as part of the new Red Wings hockey arena, so the future of the building is in doubt.
